we had a good time at Collins Lake. HOT HOT HOT! It was about 105 or so on friday...........the water felt very nice!

MD, how was the open area? Any grass & trees or all gravel? Can you spread out and save room for friends or do you have to pack it in tight with your neighbors?

Info on Collins Lake, California
Howdy all, we are looking to get away this holiday weekend (i know, last minute), and were thinking about going to Collins Lake.
Although they are full, they said the Open Camp is always available.
Has anyone ever stayed there in the open camp?
Is is worth a 3 hour drive? We will have 4 adults, 6 yo, 4 yo, 4 month old, and a dog.
The websiteCollins Lake shows the Open Camp to be right on the water.
I would think maybe some canoeing, and swimming right from the shore, would be a nice weekend.
Our trailer is 38' and fully self contained so, it shouldn't be too bad for fri - sun.
If you have some pics to share that would be GREAT! Thanks for your help.
